Tally, SAP and Excel: The Accounting Skills Employers Ask For
By JobKarle Editorial Team · Published · 2 min read
A practical guide to the software and Excel skills in accounts job descriptions, what to learn first, and projects that prove you can do the work.
The short version
Accounting knowledge gets you the interview. Software skill gets you the job. Most accounts roles ask for Excel and one accounting package, and senior roles add an ERP such as SAP.
Tally
Tally is widely used by small and mid-sized businesses in India for bookkeeping, GST and inventory. Learn to create companies and ledgers, pass vouchers, manage stock, generate GST returns data and print reports.
SAP and other ERPs
Large companies use ERP systems to manage finance, purchasing and sales together. You usually learn the specific system on the job, but understanding the idea helps: modules for accounts payable, receivable, general ledger and assets, with approvals and audit trails.
